Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine
新倉富士浅間神社
Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine stands at the foot of Mt. Arakura in Fujiyoshida. It is said to have been founded in 705 as the guardian shrine of the local community. After the great eruption of Mt. Fuji in 807, the imperial court sent a messenger here to pray for the fire to stop. The Chureito memorial pagoda stands in its grounds, and the area is known for cherry blossoms, azaleas and autumn leaves.
