Hagi Castle Town
UNESCO World Heritage
萩城下町
Hagi was the capital of a major samurai domain and has one of the best-preserved castle towns in Japan. Narrow streets with white walls, orange trees and old samurai houses remain today. Leaders from Hagi helped end samurai rule and open Japan to modernization. The town is also known for Hagi-yaki pottery, and Kikugahama Beach lies next to the remains of Hagi Castle.
