Daikanbo

大観峰

Daikanbo is a station on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, standing on a cliff of the Tateyama mountains. From here you look down on Kurobe Lake and the Ushiro-Tateyama mountains. On the station roof is the Daikanbo Cloud Terrace, an open viewing area. The Tateyama Ropeway runs from Daikanbo down to Kurobe-daira.

Getting there

The Tateyama Ropeway between Daikanbo and Kurobe-daira takes about 7 minutes.

Hours and fees can change. Please check the official website before you go.

Good to know

  • The Cloud Terrace on the station roof has wooden chairs and tables where you can rest.
  • The ropeway has no towers on the slope, so you get a 360-degree panorama on the way down.
  • In spring, the ropeway gives views of snow fields from the air.

Tips for Muslim visitors

  • The official FAQ lists the Alpine Route's restaurants at Murodo Station, Hotel Midagahara, Kurobe Dam Station and Ogizawa Station (with light meals at Kurobedaira); Daikanbo is not among them.
  • You may bring your own food and drinks onto the Alpine Route; please take leftover food and rubbish home.
  • Natural sites may have few facilities. Bring water, a travel prayer mat and a qibla app, and check the weather; mountains and lakes can be much colder than the city.
  • Restrooms for wudu can be far apart on trails. Many Muslim travellers carry a small water bottle for wudu.
  • Plan your visit around prayer times. Below are today's prayer times for Toyama and the verified places to pray nearby.
  • Food stalls and shops near popular sights usually do not have halal certification. Check the ingredients, or choose from the verified places on this site.
