Amaharashi Coast

雨晴海岸

Amaharashi Coast is a scenic shore in Takaoka City facing Toyama Bay. It is famous for the view of the small rocky island Onna-iwa with the Tateyama mountains rising behind it across the sea. The name is linked to Yoshitsune Rock, where the warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune is said to have waited for a rain shower to stop. The poet Otomo no Yakamochi loved this view and wrote many poems about it.

Getting there: About 5 minutes on foot from Amaharashi Station on the JR Himi Line.

Designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty as part of "Oku no Hosomichi" landscapes (Ariso-umi).

Tips for Muslim visitors

The snow-capped mountains across the bay are seen best on clear days, especially in winter when there is little haze.
Photographers often come at sunset to take pictures of the coast. If you visit in the evening, plan your Maghrib prayer around the sunset.
Natural sites may have few facilities. Bring water, a travel prayer mat and a qibla app, and check the weather; mountains and lakes can be much colder than the city.
Restrooms for wudu can be far apart on trails. Many Muslim travellers carry a small water bottle for wudu.
