Daisenji Temple (Mt. Daisen)
大山寺
Daisenji is an old temple on the slopes of Mt. Daisen, founded in the 7th century. At its peak it had over one hundred smaller temples and was a training center for mountain ascetics. It burned in 1928 and was rebuilt in the traditional way. Its buildings are spread along the mountainside, at the start of a popular hiking trail up Mt. Daisen.

Tips for Muslim visitors
- At the end of the approach path you climb stone steps to reach the main hall. Another old stone-paved path runs from the side of the main hall to the Okumiya of Ogamiyama Shrine, so wear shoes that are good for walking.
- Buddhist temples welcome visitors of all faiths. You can enjoy the buildings and gardens without joining any prayer, burning incense or buying charms.
- Many halls ask you to take off your shoes. Wear socks and shoes that are easy to slip off, and keep a bag for your shoes if none is provided.
- Photography is often not allowed inside halls. Follow the signs and ask staff if you are unsure.
