Nagoro Scarecrow Village
天空の村 かかしの里
Nagoro is a small village deep in the mountains of the Iya area in Miyoshi City. A local woman, Tsukimi Ayano, began making scarecrows in memory of former residents, and today over 350 of her figures live alongside about 30 people. You can see them working in fields, waiting at bus stops and sitting in the old school. It is a quiet place to walk around slowly.

From JR Oboke Station take the Shikoku Kotsu Bus to Kubo, change to the municipal bus bound for Mt. Tsurugi, and get off at Nagoro.

Good to know
- Car parking is on the ground of the former Nagoro elementary school, about 300 m upstream.
- Tour buses park at the Mt. Miune Climbing Trailhead Parking, about 700 m upstream.
- You can walk around the village and go into the old school, which is filled with scarecrows.
Tips for Muslim visitors
- Old streets are lined with small shops and food stalls. Ask about pork and alcohol before buying snacks.
- Many old houses are private homes. Do not enter them or take photos of residents without permission.
