Shiraito Falls

Shiraito Falls

UNESCO World Heritage

白糸ノ滝

Shiraito Falls in Fujinomiya are fed by spring water from Mount Fuji. Hundreds of thin streams fall from a curved cliff about 20 m high and 150 m wide, looking like white threads. In the past, Fuji pilgrims came here for water training, and the falls are a component of the Mount Fuji World Heritage site. From the viewing deck you can see the falls and, on clear days, Mount Fuji.

Tips for Muslim visitors

  • The best time to see a rainbow at the falls is on a sunny morning, in any season; autumn colours peak from late October to late November.
  • From the bus stop in front of the Shiraito Falls tourist information centre it is a 10-minute walk.
  • Shiraito Falls is said to be where the ascetic Hasegawa Kakugyo practised water austerities, and it became a place of pilgrimage and religious training, mainly for Fuji-ko believers. Visitors may simply look around.
  • Natural sites may have few facilities. Bring water, a travel prayer mat and a qibla app, and check the weather; mountains and lakes can be much colder than the city.
  • Restrooms for wudu can be far apart on trails. Many Muslim travellers carry a small water bottle for wudu.
  • Plan your visit around prayer times. Below are today's prayer times for Shizuoka and the verified places to pray nearby.
  • Food stalls and shops near popular sights usually do not have halal certification. Check the ingredients, or choose from the verified places on this site.
