Jogasaki Coast
城ヶ崎海岸
Jogasaki Coast in Ito is a rocky coastline of about 9 km, formed by lava from Mount Omuro more than 4,000 years ago. Its steep cliffs are part of the Izu Peninsula UNESCO Global Geopark. The Kadowaki Suspension Bridge, 48 m long and 23 m high, crosses a sea inlet above the waves. Nearby Kadowaki Lighthouse has a free viewing deck, and coastal walking trails run along the cliffs.

Admission to Kadowaki Lighthouse is free.
- Getting there
From Izu-Kogen Station, take a bus bound for Kaiyo Koen to Izu Oceanic Park (about 10 minutes). From Jogasaki-Kaigan Station it is about a 30-minute walk to the bridge.
- Time needed
The Jogasaki Picnic Course is about 3 km; the Nature Study Course is about 6 km.

Good to know
- The suspension bridge holds up to 100 people. Some cliff-edge areas have no paths or signs; visit them only with a guide.
Tips for Muslim visitors
- The coastal path passes holes in the ground where you can look down on the sea and rocks, so watch your step.
- The Kadowaki Suspension Bridge hangs 23 meters above an inlet of water and sharp rocks.
- You can walk the whole coast or only a short section, which makes it easier to fit around prayer times.
- Natural sites may have few facilities. Bring water, a travel prayer mat and a qibla app, and check the weather; mountains and lakes can be much colder than the city.
- Restrooms for wudu can be far apart on trails. Many Muslim travellers carry a small water bottle for wudu.
