Shuri Castle Park

Shuri Castle Park

UNESCO World Heritage

首里城公園

For about 450 years, Shurijo Castle was the center of politics, diplomacy and culture of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The castle was destroyed in 1945 and was restored as a park in 1992. In October 2019 a fire destroyed the Seiden main hall, and the park stayed open while it was rebuilt. The park says the interior of the restored Seiden opens to the public from November 23, 2026. The Shuri-jo Site is part of the UNESCO World Heritage property "Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu".
