Shikinaen Garden
UNESCO World Heritage
識名園
Shikinaen was built in 1799 in Naha as a villa for the royal family of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Large banquets were held here for envoys from China. It is a circuit garden around a pond, with a Chinese-style arched stone bridge. On the other side of the pond stands the Udun, a house with a red-tiled roof in Ryukyu style. It was completely destroyed in World War II and restored over 20 years, from 1975 to 1995. Shikinaen is part of the UNESCO World Heritage property "Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu".

Tips for Muslim visitors
- The garden has winding paths with viewpoints, so it is explored on foot.
- Natural sites may have few facilities. Bring water, a travel prayer mat and a qibla app, and check the weather; mountains and lakes can be much colder than the city.
- Restrooms for wudu can be far apart on trails. Many Muslim travellers carry a small water bottle for wudu.
- Plan your visit around prayer times. Below are today's prayer times for Okinawa and the verified places to pray nearby.
- Food stalls and shops near popular sights usually do not have halal certification. Check the ingredients, or choose from the verified places on this site.
