Gyokusendo Cave (Okinawa World)

玉泉洞（おきなわワールド）

Gyokusendo is a limestone cave in Okinawa World theme park in Nanjo City. It is about 5 km long and formed over about 300,000 years, and it is the largest cave in Okinawa; 890 m are open to visitors. Okinawa World also has a replica Ryukyu Kingdom castle town with 100-year-old red-tiled houses, a tropical fruit orchard, a habu snake museum park and eisa dance shows.

Visitor information

Getting there: From Naha Bus Terminal take Ryukyu Bus No. 83 (Gyokusendo Line) to Gyokusendo Chushajo stop (about 40 minutes), then walk 1 minute.
Time needed: Allow 30 minutes to 1 hour for the cave, and about 3 hours for all of Okinawa World.

Okinawa World also has a habu snake museum park and a tropical fruit orchard with over 450 fruit trees.

Tips for Muslim visitors

The Okinawa soba restaurant Nantoya offers yushi-tofu soba made without animal-derived ingredients, labelled as a vegan and Muslim-friendly menu item.
The standard Okinawa soba at the same restaurant is topped with simmered pork belly.
The park has its own brewery (Nanto Shuzo) making beer and liqueurs such as habu snake sake, with a shop that has a tasting corner and a beer café.
Plan 3 to 5 hours for the park; entry to the cave can get crowded right after a show ends.
Natural sites may have few facilities. Bring water, a travel prayer mat and a qibla app, and check the weather; mountains and lakes can be much colder than the city.
Restrooms for wudu can be far apart on trails. Many Muslim travellers carry a small water bottle for wudu.
