Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium
沖縄美ら海水族館
Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium opened on November 1, 2002, inside Ocean Expo Park in Motobu, northern Okinawa. Its theme is "Encounter the Okinawan Sea", and the exhibits follow the ocean from the coast to the open Kuroshio Sea and the deep sea. The largest tank, "Kuroshio Sea", holds 7,500 cubic meters of water. Food and drinks cannot be brought inside, but there is a restaurant and a cafe, and you may eat your own food at rest areas in the park.

Usually 8:30–18:30 (last entry 17:30). Longer hours in peak season, e.g. 8:30–21:00 in August 2026.

No scheduled closing days until March 31, 2027, except temporary closures such as typhoons.
- Admission
Adult 2,180 yen, high school 1,440 yen, elementary/junior high 710 yen, under 6 free.
- Getting there
From Naha Airport about 2 hours by car or about 3 hours by highway bus.
- Time needed
A visit generally takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Same-day re-entry is possible with your ticket.

Good to know
- No food or drinks may be brought inside. You can eat your own food at the Main Rest House (Churaumi Plaza) or the Event Hall.
- Wheelchair accessible with elevators to floors 1, 3 and 4, and barrier-free toilets. Free strollers and wheelchairs at P7 parking building 1F (limited).
- The official FAQ, barrier-free page and floor map do not list a prayer room.
Tips for Muslim visitors
- Eating, and bringing food or drinks, is not allowed inside the aquarium; water in sealed bottles or flasks is allowed for staying hydrated.
- Personal photos are allowed inside the aquarium, including with flash, as long as you do not disturb others.
- The restaurants and shops can get very crowded at certain times, so allow extra time.
- Aquariums and zoos take a few hours to see. Plan a prayer time in your visit and check the map for quiet spaces.
- Snack stands may sell sausages and other pork products. Check the ingredients or bring your own snacks where allowed.
