Cape Manzamo

万座毛

Cape Manzamo is one of the most beautiful spots on the Onna coast on the west side of Okinawa's main island. It is a grassy field on top of a 20-meter-high limestone cliff that drops steeply into the sea. King Sho Kei of the Ryukyu Kingdom is said to have praised this green field and the wide blue sea. A visitor facility with shops, restaurants and a free observation deck opened next to the cape in October 2020.

Visitor information

Opening hours

Facility: 8:00–20:00 (March–October), 8:00–19:00 (November–February). Visiting the cape itself is until sunset.

Closed

Open all year; may close during typhoons or other natural disasters.

Admission

Viewing area: 100 yen per person (same for adults and children); preschool children free.

Getting there

About 1 hour 15 minutes by car from Naha Airport on ordinary roads (Route 331, then Route 58 north). Free parking.

Good to know

  • Free stroller and wheelchair rental at the information desk; accessible "everyone's toilet" on the 1st floor.
  • Stroll the grassy clifftop for views of the blue sea.

Tips for Muslim visitors

  • The official site recommends the sunset at Manzamo as a must-see.
  • Visiting the Manzamo cliffs is possible only until sunset, so plan your Maghrib prayer and departure accordingly.
  • Natural sites may have few facilities. Bring water, a travel prayer mat and a qibla app, and check the weather; mountains and lakes can be much colder than the city.
  • Restrooms for wudu can be far apart on trails. Many Muslim travellers carry a small water bottle for wudu.

  • Food stalls and shops near popular sights usually do not have halal certification. Check the ingredients, or choose from the verified places on this site.
