Mihama American Village

Mihama American Village is a seaside resort area in Chatan, on the west coast of central Okinawa. It has a wide variety of shops, restaurants and activities. A boardwalk runs along the sea, and watching the sunset from there is a popular thing to do. It is a convenient stop on the way between Naha and the northern part of the island.

Getting there

From Naha city take bus No. 20, 28 or 29, or from Naha Airport bus No. 120, to Kuwae; then about a 3-minute walk.

About 40 minutes by car from Naha Airport.

Bus No. 143 runs from Naha Airport Domestic Terminal 1F bus stop 5 to Chatan (about 70 minutes, 900 yen).

  • Chatan Town Tourist Information Center in the village: 9:00–18:00, closed December 29–January 3. Coin lockers, luggage storage, free Wi-Fi, phone charging.
  • Chatan Town Tourist Information Center phone: 098-926-4455.
  • Shopping, live performances and dining in one place; the boardwalk is a popular sunset spot.
  • Follow the posted rules for private land and parking; violations may be reported to police.

Tips for Muslim visitors

  • Old streets are lined with small shops and food stalls. Ask about pork and alcohol before buying snacks.
  • Many old houses are private homes. Do not enter them or take photos of residents without permission.
