Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown
長崎新地中華街
Shinchi Chinatown in central Nagasaki is one of Japan's three major Chinatowns, along with Yokohama and Kobe. Its streets are lined with Chinese restaurants, food stalls and shops, and the gates and decorations give it a foreign atmosphere. Visitors come here to walk, shop and see the colourful streets.

Tips for Muslim visitors
- About 40 shops line the street, including Chinese restaurants and shops selling Chinese sweets and goods.
- Nagasaki City's tourism site says the chanpon soup at Kyokaen in Shinchi Chinatown is made from chicken bones and pork bones in roughly equal parts.
- The same article says Laolee, also in Shinchi Chinatown, adds pork back fat to its chanpon as a final flavouring.
- Street food and market snacks often contain pork, lard or alcohol (such as mirin or sake), even when this is not obvious. Ask before you buy.
- Some markets and shopping streets ask visitors not to eat while walking. Eat at the stall or in a rest area.
