Dejima

Dejima

出島

Dejima was a small fan-shaped island completed in 1636. In 1641 the Shogunate had the Dutch move their trading post here from Hirado. Later land reclamation around the harbor removed the island's original shape. Today the former Dutch trading post is being restored, and visitors can follow Dejima's history while walking among the rebuilt sites.
