Sendai Daikannon

仙台大観音

Sendai Daikannon is a huge statue of the Buddhist figure Kannon in Izumi Ward, northern Sendai. It is 100 meters tall, a height chosen to mark the 100th anniversary of Sendai City. Visitors enter through a dragon-mouth gate and ride an elevator inside the 12-level statue. Windows near the top look out over Sendai and the Pacific Ocean.
