Osaki Hachimangu Shrine
大崎八幡宮
Osaki Hachimangu is a Shinto shrine in Sendai and a National Treasure. It was built between 1604 and 1607 by Date Masamune, the samurai who founded Sendai, and is an outstanding example of early 17th-century architecture. It is still an active shrine used for prayers, weddings and festivals. Its best-known event is the Dontosai festival, with a pilgrimage and a large bonfire.
