Ise Jingu Naiku (Inner Shrine)

Ise Jingu Naiku (Inner Shrine)

伊勢神宮 内宮(皇大神宮)

Ise Jingu is not one shrine but a group of 125 shrines centered on Naiku (the Inner Shrine) and Geku (the Outer Shrine). Naiku, in Ise City, is dedicated to Amaterasu-omikami, the ancestral deity of the Imperial family. Visitors cross Uji Bridge into wide forested grounds through which the Isuzu River flows. By old custom, people visit Geku first and then Naiku.
