Chichibugahama is a shallow beach about 1 km long on the western coast of Kagawa, in Mitoyo City. At low tide, pools of water form on the sand and reflect the sky like a mirror when the water is calm. Many people come at dusk to take photos of the sunset over the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. Local residents clean the beach every day.

  • The best time for mirror-like photos is dusk at low tide, when the water is calm.

Tips for Muslim visitors

  • The 'mirror' views appear at sunset at low tide; arriving 30 minutes to an hour before sunset is recommended. Sunset is also Maghrib time, so plan your prayer around it.
  • In summer the 1 km beach is busy with swimmers and sunbathers.
  • Natural sites may have few facilities. Bring water, a travel prayer mat and a qibla app, and check the weather; mountains and lakes can be much colder than the city.
  • Restrooms for wudu can be far apart on trails. Many Muslim travellers carry a small water bottle for wudu.
