21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa

The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art is a modern art museum in the center of Kanazawa. Inside are several popular permanent works, and outdoor artworks stand on the lawns around the building. Many installations are interactive, so visitors can touch and play with the art. The grounds feel like a family park.

Good to know
- The indoor public zone, permanent installations and outdoor works are free. Temporary exhibitions need paid tickets.
Tips for Muslim visitors
- Weekdays, and weekends after about 3 pm, tend to be less crowded; on Fridays and Saturdays the exhibition zone is open until 8 pm and is quiet after 5 pm.
- As a guide for groups, allow about 30 minutes for the free zone and 30–45 minutes per exhibition.
- Eating is not allowed inside the museum except at the café-restaurant Fusion21; food, umbrellas, selfie sticks and bags larger than B4 cannot be taken into the galleries, and some works cannot be photographed.
- Museums are quiet, indoor places that are good for a break, but few have a prayer room. Staff may let you use a quiet corner if you ask politely.
- Photography rules change by exhibition. Check the signs before taking pictures.
