Odori Park (Sapporo)

Odori Park is a long green park in the center of Sapporo, stretching about 1.5 km from east to west across 12 city blocks. It began in 1871 as a large firebreak and is now a place where locals and visitors relax on the lawns and by the fountains. The park has about 4,700 trees of 92 kinds, including lilacs, and the 147-meter Sapporo TV Tower, built in 1957, is a symbol of the city. Big events such as the Sapporo Snow Festival in winter and summer festivals are held here.

The park runs from Odori Nishi 1-chome to Nishi 12-chome in Chuo-ku, Sapporo.
The Information Center and Official Shop at Nishi 7-chome offers free telephone interpretation in English, Chinese and Korean.
Major events are held here, including the YOSAKOI Soran festival, the Beer Garden, the Summer Festival, the Snow Festival and the White Illumination in winter.
The fountain at Nishi 3-chome shows 16 water patterns in 15 minutes.

Tips for Muslim visitors

In central Sapporo, the Hokkaido Tourism Organization lists a prayer space at Sapporo Factory, on the 3rd floor of 3-jo Hall (Kita 2-jo Higashi 4-chome, Chuo-ku), open 10:00-20:00.
Natural sites may have few facilities. Bring water, a travel prayer mat and a qibla app, and check the weather; mountains and lakes can be much colder than the city.
Restrooms for wudu can be far apart on trails. Many Muslim travellers carry a small water bottle for wudu.
