Yamato Museum (Kure)
大和ミュージアム(呉市海事歴史科学館)
The Yamato Museum in Kure tells the history of the city, which grew together with Japan's modern shipbuilding and steelmaking. Its best-known exhibit is a 1/10-scale model of the battleship Yamato, the world's largest battleship, which was built in Kure. Other large items include a Zero Fighter and a Kaiten human torpedo. The museum closed for a large renovation and reopened on April 23, 2026, with a renewed entrance hall and a refreshed Yamato model.
