Shukkeien Garden
縮景園
Shukkeien is a Japanese garden built in 1620 by Ueda Soko, a chief retainer of the Asano clan and a tea master, for the lord's villa. It is said to be modeled on West Lake in China, and it shows mountains, rivers and valleys in miniature around a central pond with islands. The garden was destroyed by the atomic bomb in 1945, and its Seifukan and Meigetsu-tei pavilions have since been restored. Visitors stroll past bridges, valleys and small pavilions.

Tips for Muslim visitors
- Eating is allowed only at the tables under the wisteria trellis on the lawn in front of the art museum.
- Spreading picnic or ground sheets is not allowed in the garden.
- Natural sites may have few facilities. Bring water, a travel prayer mat and a qibla app, and check the weather; mountains and lakes can be much colder than the city.
- Restrooms for wudu can be far apart on trails. Many Muslim travellers carry a small water bottle for wudu.
