Onomichi
尾道
Onomichi is a port town that the tourism office describes as a Japan Heritage Site, with many temples such as Jikoji, Senko-ji and Jodoji. Senko-ji is a Buddhist temple said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi in 806. It stands 140 meters above sea level on Mt. Daiho and looks over Onomichi Port. Its vermilion main hall from 1686 is known as the Red Hall, and its bell tower is one of the 100 Soundscapes of Japan. A short ropeway ride gives views over the town.

- Getting there
From JR Onomichi Station, take a city bus to the Nagaeguchi stop, then the ropeway or walk.
From the ropeway's Summit Station, walk the Literary Path to Senko-ji Temple (about 5 minutes).
- Time needed
The Senkoji Ropeway ride takes about 3 minutes.
A suggested walking course from Onomichi Station (Jikoji, ropeway, Senkoji Park, Onomichi Movie Museum, Jodoji) takes about 4 hours.

- Baggage storage is available at the ropeway's lower (Sanroku) station.
Tips for Muslim visitors
- On weekends in cherry-blossom season, Senko-ji Park and the city are expected to be very crowded.
- Senko-ji is a Buddhist temple whose unusual stage-style main hall is known as the 'Red Hall'. Visitors may simply look around and enjoy the view.
- From the Senko-ji Park car park it is about a 5-minute walk to the temple.
