Atomic Bomb Dome
UNESCO World Heritage
原爆ドーム
The Atomic Bomb Dome was built in 1915 as a hall to show and sell products from Hiroshima Prefecture, designed by Czech architect Jan Letzl. On August 6, 1945, the first atomic bomb in human history exploded above the city, and the building was left as a ruin. Its remaining walls and steel dome became a symbol of the wish for lasting peace. It is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, registered in 1996. Visitors view it from outside, in the quiet surroundings of Peace Memorial Park.
