Tips for Muslim visitors
- At Ikaho's main open-air hot spring bath, there are separate baths for men and women.
- A free outdoor footbath is located two-thirds of the way up the stone steps, so you can enjoy the hot spring water without undressing.
- There are 365 stone steps up to the shrine at the top, so allow time and energy for the climb.
- At most public hot springs in Japan people bathe naked, in baths separated by gender, and swimwear is usually not allowed. If you prefer privacy, look for a private bath (kashikiri-buro), an in-room bath or a foot bath.
- Wash your body at the shower area before entering the bath. Many visitors who want to stay covered choose a foot bath instead.
