Takayama Jinya

高山陣屋

Takayama Jinya is a historic government office in the center of Takayama. The building dates from the Edo period (1603–1868), when officials ruled the Hida region from here. Today it is a museum. Visitors walk through tatami rooms and wooden corridors and learn how the local government worked in the past.

Visitor information

Opening hours: April 1 to October 31: 8:45–17:00. November 1 to March 31: 8:45–16:30. Tickets stop 30 minutes before closing.
Closed: Closed for the New Year holidays (December 29 to January 3). It may also close for inspections or storms.
Admission: Adults 500 yen. Free for visitors 18 years old or younger.

Good to know

The building is from the Edo period, so some areas are not fully wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair users switch to a special wheelchair for the tatami rooms.
