Uchiko-za Theater

内子座

Uchiko-za is a theater built in 1916 in the town of Uchiko for Kabuki and Bunraku puppet plays. Local people saved it from being torn down, and it was restored in 1985. Uchiko grew rich in the Edo and Meiji periods, and nearby, about 93 old buildings line a 600-meter street in the Yokaichi and Gokoku historical district. Visitors can look inside the theater with volunteer guides.
