Shimanami Kaido (Sunrise Itoyama Cycling Terminal)
しまなみ海道（サンライズ糸山）
The Shimanami Kaido is a famous cycling route that runs from Ehime to Hiroshima across islands of the Seto Inland Sea, linked by nine bridges. Sunrise Itoyama is a cycling terminal in Imabari at the foot of the Kurushima-Kaikyo Bridge. Visitors can rent bicycles here and start their ride. Riders can use the pedestrian lanes on the bridges.

The terminal is open 8:00–20:00 (April to September) and 8:00–17:00 (October to March).
- Admission
Standard bike rental: adults 2,000 yen, children under 12 500 yen per day.
- Time needed
The official cycling itinerary from Imabari recommends one day; it is suitable for intermediate cyclists.

Good to know
- A refundable deposit of 1,100 yen is charged for each bike.
- Riders can use the pedestrian lanes on the connecting bridges.
Tips for Muslim visitors
- The whole route is about 70 km. It takes about 4 hours for experienced cyclists and about 10 hours for beginners, so plan prayer stops along the way.
- There are 10 rental terminals, and you can return a rental bike at any of them, so you do not have to ride the whole route.
- Natural sites may have few facilities. Bring water, a travel prayer mat and a qibla app, and check the weather; mountains and lakes can be much colder than the city.
- Restrooms for wudu can be far apart on trails. Many Muslim travellers carry a small water bottle for wudu.

- Food stalls and shops near popular sights usually do not have halal certification. Check the ingredients, or choose from the verified places on this site.
