Tips for Muslim visitors

  • Odate City's guide asks visitors to wash or disinfect their hands before and after touching the Akita dogs.
  • If you carry food, keep it hidden inside your bag when you are near the dogs. Let a dog sniff your hand first, then pet it gently from below the face.
  • Museums are quiet, indoor places that are good for a break, but few have a prayer room. Staff may let you use a quiet corner if you ask politely.
  • Photography rules change by exhibition. Check the signs before taking pictures.
