Atsuta Jingu Shrine

熱田神宮

Atsuta Jingu is one of the most important Shinto shrines in Japan and is often called "Atsuta-sama" or "Miya". It was founded about 1,900 years ago, when the sacred sword Kusanagi-no-tsurugi was enshrined here. The shrine stands in Atsuta Forest, a large green grove in the south of Nagoya, and about nine million people visit each year. The Treasure Hall shows items from a collection of about 4,000 offerings, displayed in turns.
